John P. Puleo, Esq. is a trial attorney with over thirty-five years of litigation experience, both civil and criminal, and has been recognized by his peers as a Super Lawyer.  Mr. Puleo served as a criminal prosecutor for 19 years, first in Detroit and then in Boston, where he was a member of the Gang Unit, managed a Superior Court trial team, and directed the Asset Forfeiture Unit.  For the past 19 years, Mr. Puleo has concentrated primarily on civil litigation, with a specialization in medical malpractice defense.  After leaving his prosecutorial career, Mr. Puleo was a partner at Hassan & Reardon, P.C., and just prior to joining HMDR&S he was a partner at Hamrock, Puleo & Oh, a law firm closely affiliated with CRICO, the professional liability carrier for Harvard Medical School-affiliated institutions.   Mr. Puleo regularly represents health care professionals and institutions in judicial and administrative proceedings, and regularly consults for CRICO.  Mr. Puleo’s practice areas of concentration also include employment matters, administrative law and criminal defense.

Mr. Puleo was admitted to the federal bar and the state bar of Michigan in 1981, and to the Massachusetts bar in 1990.  Mr. Puleo received a J.D. from the University of Detroit in 1981, and a B.S. (Accounting and Criminal Justice) from Villanova University in 1978 (where he quarterbacked their Division I football team, earning various accolades).  Over the past twenty years Mr. Puleo has also taught extensively and received awards for teaching excellence, including at Northeastern University, the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council, and numerous other colleges and schools.  Mr. Puleo has been a faculty member for the Massachusetts Bar Association and his writing has been published in the Massachusetts Law Review.  Mr. Puleo has also served on various Boards, including schools and non-profits, providing them with legal guidance on various regulatory and compliance issues.  Mr. Puleo enjoys travel, golf and all forms of exercise.
